I am holding up a stone crab in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay during the University of Rhode Island's Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting.
I am a reporter for Rankin Ledger and The Clarion-Ledger. I write about Rankin County, Mississippi, a semi-rural, semi-suburban county that neighbors nearby Jackson, the state’s capital. I cover city government, county government and law enforcement.
I completed internships at The Clarion-Ledger and The Modesto (Calif.) Bee. I graduated in May from Louisiana State University, where I was editor of my college newspaper, The Daily Reveille. Under my leadership, we grew site traffic on our Web site — lsureveille.com — by 40 percent in one year. Editor & Publisher magazine also named our Web site the best in the nation for the 2007-2008 academic year.
I’m new media minded, and I see the struggles facing our industry as just a challenge. I love community journalism, and I believe community papers will be the newspapers to lead the industry through these tough times.
